Olive Festival 2012

This past Saturday marked our 3rd visit to the Riebeek Valley Olive Festival. A bit about this special part of the world, the Riebeek valley incorporates three towns, Riebeek West, Riebeek Kasteel and Hermon. Riebeek Kasteel, our favourite, is nestled on the slopes of its own mountain, the Kasteelberg, and is surrounded by beautiful vineyards and olive groves.

What a great day! Beautiful weather, fabulous wines, delicious tasting food (not just olives), and the best company... family and friends!

We started off in town, tasting some delicious wine from Mullineux Family Wines, located in Short Street. Perfect way to start the day! By far our favourite wine from Mullineux is the Straw Wine, which received 5 stars in 2012 Platter. I couldn't leave without a bottle - it really is that good! Try it!

Loved the wine, and the wildlife - Images my own.

We also visited Kloovenburg, where each year there is a market of the most delicious food, from cheeses, to sweet treats and of course more great wine.

We had the most fabulous day, and were sad to not find accommodation to stay over. My advice is book early for 2013 so you can enjoy both the Saturday and Sunday in this beautiful part of the world.

P.S As you know this blog is brand spanking new, so I would love for you to give me some feedback and suggestions and if there is something you want more of :)
